| What
is Saxtet?
Currently
one of Britain's best known saxophone ensembles, Saxtet's vibrant,
diverse programmes have kept it at the cutting edge of the European
music scene for over fifteen years. From its earliest days, the
relative lack of original material for saxophone ensemble encouraged
group members to produce their own material, which encompasses
a huge variety of styles from arrangements of standard song to
exciting, original compositions.
Now fully evolved into a high-energy performing
and composing collective, the latest incarnation of Saxtet delivers
a unique package where tangos and Township sit comfortably with
New York street funk and contemporary classical. Dynamic performances
combine blistering ensemble work and flying improvisations, and
showcase the brilliant individual skills of Richard Exall's virtuoso
clarinet playing and Karen Street's sparkling accordion playing.
In concert the current repertoire is based
on material from their latest CD - "Urban Groove". Click
